What do you do before you travel?
With only a few hours left before we leave, we’re all wrapped up in our own routines, to the point that we’re almost unaware of what we’re doing.
Our daughter Erysse is a little crazier than usual. Do you like that photo of her pulling the lever? Well, that’s what she’s like before every trip, except that her parents are on the other side of it.
But it’s all good. Girls will be girls, right?
Iden, our middle son, is packing and re-packing his bags. He thinks we’re going to be skiing for five straight weeks. I’m going to try to break it to him gently. It’s a three-day drive to Salt Lake City, and Mom still hasn’t booked a hotel, let alone made any arrangements to hit the slopes.
Aren, our 13-year-old, makes a mad dash to finish all of his homework before we go on a trip. He doesn’t like doing school work in the car, which is understandable when you are prone to motion sickness. I’m not one to write and drive, either. That can be downright dangerous, especially if you’re behind the wheel.
I asked Kari about her pre-trip ritual. “Besides worry?” she asked. Yes. She likes to pack the car 24 hours before we leave, just to make sure nothing is being overlooked.
And me? I have this odd habit of cleaning the house just before our departure. When asked why, I always say, “That’s so when they rob the house, they’ll say, ‘Wow, what a clean house!'” But I have other reasons. I hate coming home to chaos.
This week, I’d love to hear about your pre-trip rituals. Send me an email and tell me about what you do before you embark on a vacation or business trip. Have you added anything new to the list recently? I there something you always forget when you travel? And what are some of the things you try to do in order to remember?

Next up …
The adventure starts next week. I’ll be checking in from Salt Lake City or somewhere around there. If we can find a place to stay.
